The Data Lab

We offer student programs designed to cultivate data-minded communities through co-curricular activities that make data skills accessible, relevant, applicable, and ethically driven for students.

Our Programs

Data Research Internship

The Data Research Internship program at CAIDS offers undergraduates the opportunity to obtain a technical skillset with tangible experience working on data projects in the humanities and sciences.

Interns work with Tulane faculty, graduate students, and staff on digital projects that contribute to original research. We aim to focus on projects that involve social justice.

Data Ambassador Council

The Data Ambassador Council (DAC) aims to offer a diverse cohort of undergraduate an graduate students the opportunity to engage and have an input at CAIDS.

DAC ambassadors advocate for data literacy and data equity throughout the student body and broader New Orleans community by communicating initiatives brought forth by CAIDS.

Our Tenets

We value using technology intentionally to build communities and enhance learning, while also examining the “why” in addition to the “what” when working with technology and data.

We value connecting to the personal and to communities outside of academia, while also uncovering the causes of inequality and leveraging resources toward undoing power structures

We value our work in examining how gender, intersecting with other social categories, structures our lives, learning, and knowledge production, access to resources and information.

We value cultivating self-care and boundaries.

We value being treated agentic co-educators and promoting cooperative learning, even when this is more difficult for us.

We value building equity, trust, mutual respect, and support
