Project Overview

Through a rigorous analysis of historical data and policy decisions, we aim to explain how the physician workforce in America is artificially constrained by the U.S. healthcare market. This artificial limit helps drive up expenditures and widens the care gap between different groups of people.

The original data format, as shown in the top image, is inaccessible. We transform the inaccessible PDF files into usable data using Excel sheets.

How our Work is Used

Event Study: Medicaid Expansion and Graduate Medical Education

Event-study results from “The Medicaid Expansion and Graduate Medical Education: Hospital-Level Evidence from 2010–2019,” presented at the 95th Southern Economic Association Annual Meeting in Tampa. The figure compares pre- and post-expansion trends relative to Medicaid expansion, showing stable estimates prior to expansion and a decline in the estimated treatment effect after the policy change. This work was part of a session on healthcare labor markets, staffing, and organizational performance.
