Data Research Internship Program

The Data Research Internship Program brings together analytic thinkers who share a commitment towards accuracy, high-quality research, and people-centered values. Our team gains hands-on experience in database development, trend analysis, creating visualizations, maintaining and updating digital platforms, and approaching challenges with a problem-solving mindset to manage project objectives. Developed skills and project deliverables contribute to meaningful social science and humanitarian projects.

What We Do

Database Development

We build custom databases, ranging in style and functionality, for research-driven projects. Working closely with our project partners we ensure our work aligns with their goals and overall vision.

Data Communication via Design

Our team carries out small-scale graphic design projects for social media visuals, Data Lab brand management, website user interface designs, or inclusion in the Data Lab’s yearly zine.

Data Visualization and Mapping

We create data visualizations to gain insights into our databases and interpret trends. These visuals are often integrated into interactive dashboards.

Digital Archiving

Our team preserves and organizes research materials for long-term access and reuse. Helping our project partners securely store their work and making it discoverable for future analysis and collaboration.

Web Development

Custom web developments showcase project research in an accessible and engaging digital experience, bringing projects online to reflect the style, mission, and audience of each project.

Data Entry and Cleaning

To prepare data for analysis and ensure the accuracy and consistency of our work, we perform formatting corrections, remove duplicates, and verify data to produce high-quality results.

Our Projects

Murphy Institute

This project focuses on the extent to which restrictions on residency positions and physician training opportunities have contributed to escalating healthcare costs.

This Beautiful Sisterhood of Books (BSB)

After the 1884 New Orleans World’s Fair the physical collection of Maud Howe’s library was scattered and lost. BSB aims to recover these materials and digitize them.

Monuments

This project focuses on creating and organizing a database on monuments that will be made publicly available for educational use and outside research.

Feminist Pedagogy for Teaching Online (FPTO)

FPTO is a guide that provides resources about integrating feminist pedagogy into online, hybrid, and traditional undergraduate courses.

Center for Sport

This project focuses on organizing and displaying a database containing information on who is working within the sports industry as an executive with the goal being that sports law students can have access to this recourse to see who to connect with.

Mary Amelia Center for Women's Health Equity Research (MAC)

MAC believes that opportunities for health begin where people are born, grow, learn, work, and play. The DRI works on data visualizations for MAC reports.

Frances Gaudet Legacy Project

Tis project aims to share widely the example of her extraordinary life. We are pursuing this aim through extensive research, focusing particularly on her work in education and prison reform in the greater New Orleans area.

Kallion

Kallion provides leadership development programming for those who study or work in the humanities. The DRI interns work on cleaning and organizing Kallion’s website.

Zine

We make a zine every year to show off our work and explore our interests in data and technology!

Our Team

2025-2026 Cohort

Product Developers

Product Developers (PDs) act as the liaison between the project partners and the interns. PDs meet with the project partners to discuss what they need and set goals, organize and prepare tasks for the interns to complete.
